Energy recourses of a country play a
vital role in its socio-economic development Pakistan has an enormous potential of energy resources emerging from the diversity in physical
features however, it has yet not been able to fulfill its energy
requirement and the growth of economy economy combined with a high
demographic rate and rising urbanization has put the present energy of
resources under pressure commercial energy supplies in the country are oil, gas, coal , liquefied
petroleum gas (LPG) hydel power, thermal power and unclear power. The
later three are used for electricity. Generation as well .
At the tune of independence , the limited energy supplies
of the country were low quality coal and imported oil.

|
Hydro -electricity was available in a
very small quantity. Net energy supply was mere 0.6 MOTE. Percentage
share of each recourse was coal , 59.1%,oil 37.8% and hydro electric
power 3.1% with the development in the sector gas needs of the country
mere met by discovering large reservoirs of gas. Means for hydel power
generation were exploited. Exploration for the discovery of oil and coal
reservoirs were carried out. Now the total energy supplies in the
country oil account for 42.70 percent followed by gas 37.68 percent,
hydel power 14.14 percent, coal 5.30 percent and nuclear power 0.18
percent.
Oil is the largest sources of
energy. It is by and large important however an increasing proportion of
oil requirement are being met from domestic production. The sectoral
consumption of oil is domestic 3.6% industry 14.7%, agriculture 1.77%
transport 48.67% power 28.6 and other 2.66%. Gas fields are founds in
Dhullian, Balkassar, Meyal and Kot sarang in pot was plateum. In
1996-197 oil fields were discovered at Sakhi, Min wal and Muban, |
